Darwin city spreads the festive cheer
CITY of Darwin is spreading the festive cheer and celebrating Christmas this year with a program of events and activities for the whole family.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was a special time of year.
“I urge the community to make the most of Christmas in Darwin by checking out our fantastic Christmas events,” he said.
The Smith Street Mall has been lit up with a glowing Christmas tree and decorations to kick off the Christmas festivities.
City of Darwin has partnered with the Darwin City Waterfront Retailers Association for the inaugural 2017 Christmas in Darwin Shop Win- dow Competition. Judging of the ‘Best Dressed Window’ in the city centre will take place on Friday, December 15, with the winners announced on Saturday, December 16.
Visit the city centre this month to check out all of the decorated shop fronts.
From Saturday, December 9, Santa Clause will take up residence in the magical Santa’s Village in Anthony Plaza in the mall. Bring your camera and a list with all of your Christmas wishes.
The village will be open Mondays to Saturdays from 9.30am to 11am and 11.30am to 1pm.
City of Darwin has released a Christmas trail which features all of the exciting Christ- mas events and activities around the municipality for the whole family.

Children are invited to post their letter to Santa at one of the four libraries before Thursday, December 14.
Don’t forget to include your name and address to ensure you get a response from Santa.
Finally, don’t miss Santa’s tour of the four libraries between Monday, December 11, and Thursday, December 14, from 10am.
