Dar­win city spreads the fes­tive cheer

CITY of Dar­win is spread­ing the fes­tive cheer and cel­e­brat­ing Christ­mas this year with a pro­gram of events and ac­tiv­i­ties for the whole fam­ily.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was a spe­cial time of year.

“I urge the com­mu­nity to make the most of Christ­mas in Dar­win by check­ing out our fan­tas­tic Christ­mas events,” he said.

The Smith Street Mall has been lit up with a glow­ing Christ­mas tree and dec­o­ra­tions to kick off the Christ­mas fes­tiv­i­ties.

City of Dar­win has part­nered with the Dar­win City Wa­ter­front Re­tail­ers As­so­ci­a­tion for the in­au­gu­ral 2017 Christ­mas in Dar­win Shop Win- dow Com­pe­ti­tion. Judg­ing of the ‘Best Dressed Win­dow’ in the city cen­tre will take place on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 15, with the win­ners an­nounced on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 16.

Visit the city cen­tre this month to check out all of the dec­o­rated shop fronts.

From Satur­day, De­cem­ber 9, Santa Clause will take up res­i­dence in the mag­i­cal Santa’s Vil­lage in An­thony Plaza in the mall. Bring your cam­era and a list with all of your Christ­mas wishes.

The vil­lage will be open Mon­days to Satur­days from 9.30am to 11am and 11.30am to 1pm.

City of Dar­win has re­leased a Christ­mas trail which fea­tures all of the ex­cit­ing Christ- mas events and ac­tiv­i­ties around the mu­nic­i­pal­ity for the whole fam­ily.

Chil­dren are in­vited to post their let­ter to Santa at one of the four li­braries be­fore Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 14.

Don’t for­get to in­clude your name and ad­dress to en­sure you get a re­sponse from Santa.

Fi­nally, don’t miss Santa’s tour of the four li­braries be­tween Mon­day, De­cem­ber 11, and Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 14, from 10am.
