Orphan Carlotta crowned queen of the desert

-

THE burgeoning menagerie at the Erldunda Roadhouse has a new queen, after Carlotta the camel took the throne at the central Australian resort.

Carlotta Queen of the Desert Oaks Resort, as her majesty is officially known, after the historical name of Erldunda Roadhouse, will reign over a colourful flock, including Cluck Norris the rooster, six kangaroos and more than 30 emus.

Carlotta joins the roadhouse’s wildlife enclosure after she was found abandoned at six weeks old near the Idracowra Station late last year.

Site manager Ross West said Carlotta was happy and affectionate and the staff were loving the new addition to the family.

“She is fitting in nicely with the six rescue kangaroos and Cluck Norris but also loves to do her own thing,” he said.

“On the warm summer days she loves having a bath under the hose and rolling around in the water and mud, which the others won’t do.”

While the diverse bunch get along well, there’s no sign of any budding interspecies romances like that of Apples the pig and F*** It the kangaroo on the other side of Alice Springs.

The unlikely pair were spotted mid-coitus on the side of the road at the highway town of Aileron in 2016.
