INSIDE: Applying for aged care about to get easier:
Making it simpler for you to find aged care services
APPLYING for aged care is about to get easier, with the help of a new not-for-profit organisation.
ABC of Aged Care is delivering seminars across the Coast with information to help find and apply for the right assistance.
Director Sigrid de Kaste said she started the organisation after seeking aged care for her mother, and experiencing first-hand how difficult the process could be.
“I was told to apply for at least five places at once,” Ms de Kaste said.
“All the applications can be confusing, with one form asking for many of the same details as the next.
“A lot of what they’re asking isn’t relevant until you’ve been accepted.”
Ms de Kaste has developed a package to assist with the first stages of applying for aged care, and is pitching the template for facilities to adopt.
“It offers facilities the most important, foundation information so people can apply for five places easily,” she said.
“And when they’re accepted, they can go into the details the facility specifically needs.”
Ms de Kaste said ABC of Aged Care’s community seminars were about helping people prepare for unexpected circumstances.
“We’re taking a roadmap into the community so that people know, before an emergency arises, what they can do if they need access to services or to find placement for their loved ones.”
Earlier this month she presented the roadmap to the RAAF Association in Kawana Waters, and on October 27 she will be speaking at Parkinson’s Queensland in Nambour.
RAAF Association Kawana Waters Branch secretary Lance Doughty said the seminar had important information for anyone considering aged care options.
“We have members starting to move into aged care,” Mr Daughty said.
“It was a good, easy to understand presentation.
