ARTISTS are vy­ing for a share in $9,500 in prize money, with 40 fi­nal­ists set to un­veil their cre­ations as part of the 2017 Lo­cal Artist Lo­cal Con­tent Art Prize ex­hi­bi­tion be­ing held at the Caloun­dra Re­gional Gallery this month.

Marie Pig­ott, Pres­i­dent of Friends of the Gallery Caloun­dra – the or­gan­i­sa­tion cu­rat­ing the ex­hi­bi­tion – said each of the works re­flected the Sun­shine Coast’s iden­tity, show­cas­ing ev­ery­thing from coastal and hin­ter­land land­scapes, right through to na­tive wildlife, build­ings and prom­i­nent com­mu­nity mem­bers.

“This art prize pays homage to the in­cred­i­ble re­gion we call home through the eyes of those who know it best: its res­i­dents,” Mrs Pig­ott said.

“A range of art­works will be on dis­play be­tween Wed­nes­day, 11 Oc­to­ber to Sun­day, 5 Novem­ber, in­clud­ing two-di­men­sional paint­ings, hand-coloured col­la­graph prints, ce­ram­ics and clay sculp­tures just to name a few.” The of­fi­cial ex­hi­bi­tion open­ing is free and will take place on Wed­nes­day, 11 Oc­to­ber. The free artist talk will also take place at the Caloun­dra Re­gional Gallery, 22 Om­rah Av­enue, Caloun­dra from 10am on Thurs­day, 12 Oc­to­ber.
