Car show to put brakes on cancer
CAR enthusiasts sometimes get a bad wrap for their hotted-up wheels making too much noise.
But the Just 8 Car Club is back for their seventh annual event to show the Caloundra community their hobby can also be the vehicle for positive change.
This year their Show and Shine event will be raising money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Organiser Warwick Fraser said the event had grown immeasurably since their first meet in 2010.
“In the first year there were 50 cars and now we have a maximum of 200,” he said.
As the event grows, so do the fundraising efforts.
“Last year we raised almost $8000, which we divided between the charities,” Mr Fraser said.
He said the event is also about empowering the motoring community.
“The general public believe that every car enthusiast is a hoon so we try to bring people together to show this is not what we’re about,” he said.
The event will be held at Currimundi Hotel on Sunday, October 15. Visit www.just8s.com.au.
