Warning: overdue library fee scam

Sunshine Coast Daily - Caloundra Weekly - - LIFE -

SUNSHINE Coast residents should beware of bogus phone calls requesting payment for overdue library books.

A small number of isolated incidents of a scammer calling residents advising them they have overdue library books and they can pay the fine over the phone have been reported to Sunshine Coast Council in recent weeks.

The caller is not authorised by the Sunshine Coast Library Service nor is it a process that is used by our libraries.

Anyone who has received a call of this nature and paid money to the caller is encouraged to phone Policelink on 131 444 so that the matter can be investigated.

If anyone receives a call but recognises it as a scam, the matter can be reported online to www.scamwatch.gov.au.

If you have an overdue library item, please phone your nearest Sunshine Coast Council Library branch on (07) 5475 8989.
