Krauss engine

Sunshine Coast Daily - Caloundra Weekly - - NEWS OPINION -

IN RESPONSE to Jim Hennell’s letter (Buderim Chronicle, April 26) which explained the negotiations for the Krauss engine purchase and for which we thank him.

When Buderim–Palmwoods Heritage Tramway Inc advised the then Maroochy Shire Council in 2004 that we had located the original Maroochy Shire Krauss locomotive that ran on the Buderim to Palmwoods line and sought funds to purchase it, they were just as excited as we were.

On February 4, 2004, at the Maroochy Shire Council Planning and Development Meeting the council endorsed a contribution from Councillors Donations Funds and Divisional Funds of $8000 to purchase the loco from Graham Chapman at Murrumba Downs.

It is a shame that the current council doesn’t see the Krauss engine as a valuable piece of our local history but regards it as of low local significance, as documented by council staff in their report to council recommending it be sent off to Nambour.

Our members agree with Jim Hennell: not at Nambour, not at Mons, not at Palmwoods, but in Buderim.
