Orman back on track taking the win

RACING: The Sunshine Coast was the source of some bad luck for James Orman at the start of the year, but he’s been quick to overcome it since.

Orman fractured his T9 vertebra in a nasty fall at Corbould Park in January but, after two months out, has surged back to numerous wins.

He’s claimed four victories at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club since the incident and charged home to a fifth on Lordag in the 1400m IGA Sunshine Coast open handicap at Corbould Park on Sunday.

Orman rode three other races on the day, and had set his sights on some major meets in the coming weeks.

He said he would jump in the saddle of The Mission for the group one Doomben 10,000 this Saturday.

He’s never claimed top honours in a group one race, but hoped The Mission could guide him to the accolade.

“I’ve had a couple of group wins and black tie but not a group one, it’s the pinnacle,” he said.

“I’m really excited, it’d be good to get group one win.”

However, he admitted there would be plenty of competition, including defending champion Redzel.

“The horse I’m on is good, so you never know,” he said.
