Gym­nasts pro­pel to state cham­pi­onships

CALOUN­DRA YMCA team class gym­nasts per­formed well at the Queens­land Ju­nior State Cham­pi­onships in Bris­bane, re­turn­ing with six ap­pa­ra­tus medals.

Gym­nas­tics pro­gram man­ager Trevor Dowdell said “just get­ting to at­tend the end-of-sea­son state cham­pi­onships is tough”.

“Thou­sands of WAG gym­nasts com­pete lo­cally, then qual­ify through re­gional cham­pi­onships to the state event,” he said.

“The top 800 made it in their re­spec­tive ju­nior lev­els four, fix and six.”

Mr Dowdell said there’s a high level of achieve­ment from the young gym­nasts.

“We are all proud of these Caloun­dra ju­niors do­ing well among the best in Queens­land,” he said.

Com­pet­ing in women’s gym­nas­tics Level 5 was cur­rent Sun­shine Coast re­gional cham­pion In­dia Burns, Madisyn Top­ping and Alex Thorne.

The re­sults were: In­dia sec­ond on vault and fifth All Around (AA), Madisyn third on beam and floor and ninth AA and Alex placed 15th AA.

Com­pet­ing in men’s gym­nas­tics was Nikita Hol­loway (Level 3), Ethan Tay­lor (Level 3), Pa­trick smith (Level 4), Dion Owen (Level 5), and Khaydn Rivett (L6).

The re­sults were: Khaydn sec­ond on floor and bars and fourth AA, Dion third on pom­mel, fourth on floor and fifth AA, Nikita 17th AA, Pa­trick Smith 27th AA and Ethan 51st.
