Orchestra afternoon delights

Sunshine Coast Daily - Caloundra Weekly - - LIFE | WHAT’S ON -

FROM George Frederick Handel and Leonard Bernstein to Felix Mendelssohn and Anton Dvorak, the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra will delight with an afternoon of popular orchestral classics.

The program includes some ‘watery’ favourites – the storm-tossed romantic abandon of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, and the somewhat more restrained Water Music of Handel.

Also included in this part of the program is the Largo from Dvorak’s New World Symphony.

Reminiscent of a more modern America, the second half of the programme includes the brashness of Gershwin’s Strike up

the Band, Bernstein’s modern take on Romeo

and Juliet with his West-Side Story Suite,

and Copland’s inimitable knees-up

Hoe-down from his Rodeo ballet suite. A more introspective touch is included with Fanfare for the

Common Man, also by Aaron Copland.

Come and allow the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra to waft you off to other worlds.

The show will be held on Sunday October 28 from 2pm at the Maleny Community Centre, 23 Maple St, Maleny.

Tickets are $20 pre-booked, $25 at the door and children aged under 16 are free.

Tickets can be purchased at the Maleny Tourist Information Centre, online at sunshinecoast symphony orchestra. com or by calling 5445 3703.
