TEDx speaker challenges beauty standards:
“OUR world is dying and we dye our hair. Prisons are full, wars are raging, teens are suiciding and we laser our lines.”
Powerful words spoken by Coast resident Deirdre (Dee) Light at her previous TEDx talk ‘It’s our light that defines us, not our wrinkles’.
Dee is the CEO of her natural skincare company Manifesto of Light, a speaker and author who is passionate about women loving their natural bodies.
She is not only here to turn the beauty world upside down but intends to liberate our human potential and challenge our ideas of beauty standards.
She is familiar with being on stage and is now collaborating with Sunshine Coast libraries to spread her message.
“The library has called the presentation, Ditch the Diet, but it’s much more than a Ditch the Diet talk,” she said.
“It’s the gateway into developing a relationship with our bodies.
“Our bodies are a doorway into a much deeper connection to a much broader world.
“This is a bigger conversation than just learning to love yourself.
“When are we going to get moving to be the change that is required?
“Everyone has a body, everyone has to eat and everyone has a relationship with food.”
Dee plans on inspiring the wider community with her provocative yet clear and compelling humour.
In 2010 she put pen to paper to spark insurgency.
“I’ve written a book called The Gorgeous Revolution.
It’s particularly about women and their bodies.”
In her talks she may tread where others might not, so prepare to be provoked and enlightened.
“I’m not holding back any more, there’s nothing that will hold me back,” she said.
Dee has already spoken at Coolum library but also has events in Maroochydore, Kawana, Caloundra, Nambour, Beerwah, Maleny and Kenilworth.
