Alfie wins two scholarships in one week
AT THE age of 11, Alfie Shacklock already has a successful career at his feet after The Dance Centre Peregian Springs ballet student won two prestigious scholarships in just one week.
Alfie went up against some of Australia’s best young ballet dancers at events in Brisbane and Melbourne.
The first big test was a two-day competition at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge, in which he was pitted against 55 dancers from Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
His win in the classical ballet 10–12 years category earned him a summer school scholarship to the Australian Ballet in 2017, plus a $500 voucher.
Just two days later, Alfie flew to Melbourne for the inaugural Australian Ballet School Scholarship Awards and Master Classes.
Dancing at the Melbourne Arts Theatre against 168 other hopefuls from Australia and New Zealand, Alfie finished runner-up, winning a two-week scholarship to the Australian Ballet School.
“It was a little bit nerve-wracking because there were 11 judges and the theatre was full, but I loved it,” Alfie said.
“I love performing and this was an amazing experience. What a week!”
