Noosa wins reserve division title in closely-contested battle
IN WHAT was a back and forth tussle, Noosa came out on top against the Maroochydore Roos to win the reserve division season’s silverware.
Noosa Tigers claimed the south-east Queensland division one reserves title only in the final two minutes of the game, kicking a goal to break the tie and walk off victorious, 66-60.
The game “could have gone either way” on Saturday, according to Noosa coach Danny O’Brien.
“(It’s) Unbelievable,” he said.
“In the last quarter it felt like it was goal for goal and there was doubts but then the siren blew and we were in front.”
O’Brien believed his side played the game, held at Yeronga, with a great deal of passion.
“We do have a lot of players that aren’t skilled but they have a lot of heart and that’s what showed today (Saturday),” he said.
It’s the third year in a row that Noosa Tigers have featured in a grand final, but the first title out of those it has won. The previous two years Noosa went down to Mayne.
O’Brien believed the final had been “well disciplined” and it was a “very clean, hard game”.
