AUSSIE RULES: The hallmarks behind Maroochydore Roos’ milestone grand final victory could be found within the midfield ranks.

Captain Daniel Dzufer described the section as having a “blinder” and integral to getting the Roos “on the front foot” against Noosa.

A workhorse in the Roos midfield was Jason Ainsworth, who received the ‘best on ground’ accolade post-match.

Ainsworth said he was pretty stoked to get the gong but put his success down to ruckman Jacob Simpson.

“I played alright,” he said.

❝ Simmo the ruckman tapped it to me pretty much every time, so it makes it easy I guess.

“Simmo the ruckman tapped it to me pretty much every time, so it makes it easy I guess.”

Ainsworth played for the Roos in the 2015 season but hit the field for another club last year.

He returned this season and was pleased to see the club’s efforts pay off.

But, he said, it wasn’t easy with Noosa’s determination making for a hard-fought game.

“It’s big (to win) and I’m pretty stoked,” he said.

“We’ve been working for it all year.

“Obviously we lost to them by 40 points last week so we had to change a few things which we went out and did, so that’s good.”

Ainsworth’s hard work in the middle paid off between the posts too, as he kicked the Roos’ final goal of the match in the 23rd minute.
