Spectacular display of musical talents

Sunshine Coast Daily - - LIFE -

MORE than 200 students put on a magnificent musical performance at their annual Spring Spectacular end-of-year concert at Good Shepherd Lutheran College.

The students performed to a crowd of 400 family and friends, and the concert featured something for everyone from classical to modern, presenting the musical talents of students from Prep to Year 12.

The evening started with a modern number by the Junior Strings with a rendition of Clocks by Coldplay. Not to be outshone, the Year 4 Band showcased its promising talent by performing the Australian Wallaby Hop.

“These students are part of our Year 4 Instrumental Program, where every Year 4 student gets the chance to learn an instrument of their choice for the year. Each week the students have a small group and ensemble lesson,” acting director of music James Tomkins said.

The second part of the evening featured a grand finale performance with all music groups on stage as well as the Junior and Middle School Choirs and the Senior Vocal Group performing Hey Jude by Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

“It was an absolutely wonderful experience to participate in such a large performance by so many students of such varying ages,” Mr Tomkins said.

“For the grand finale, we had seven conductors directing over 200 students, both playing musical instruments and singing.

“This concert is the highlight of our musical calendar and features the culmination of many hours of practice and commitment by all the students, staff and parents.”
