EXTRACTS from the Sunshine Coast Daily 30 years ago today:

Marlin Makes Dave’s Day: This year’s marlin season looks set to be a record one, judging by the size of the season’s first catch - a 52kg black marlin hooked by Dave Roberts, about 10km east off Mooloolaba.

Council backs Coast dial-a-bus proposal: Maroochy Shire Council will lobby the State Government to allow a dial-a-mini-bus service to be established on the Sunshine Coast. Division three councillor Jim Birrell said the “radio-controlled” service would fill the gap in the public transport system on the Coast, particularly in the Maroochydore-Mooloolaba area.

Coast “sailor” takes island race: Talented Sunshine Coast sailboarder Kevin Johnson showed brilliant control to snatch a thrilling victory in the fourth Annual Fraser Island Marathon at Hervey Bay on Saturday. Making the most of the blustery, 15-knot conditions, Johnson headed a fleet of contenders to win the construction class and overall championship honours.
