Coun­try’s best set to hit the surf

THE coun­try’s finest surf life­savers will be in ac­tion at Coolum Beach to­day, de­ter­mined to stamp their mark on the na­tional Ocean6 Se­ries.

Hun­dreds of elite ath­letes will bat­tle it out across a va­ri­ety of dis­ci­plines with the big­gest names in the sport lin­ing-up in the blue rib­bon Nutri-Grain Iron­man and Iron­woman Se­ries.

The likes of Ali Day, Matt Poole, Matt Bevilac­qua, Brielle Cooper, Jor­dan Mercer, Lana Rogers and Court­ney Han­cock will all be in the thick of the races.

Noosa ath­lete Rogers, who ear­lier this year was crowned Aus­tralian iron­woman cham­pion, is keen to put on a show.

“I’m feel­ing and look­ing a lot bet­ter go­ing into round two and it’s awe­some to have it lo­cally,” she said.

Ris­ing stars will also kick up the sand, con­test­ing U15 and U17 events.

While at­tract­ing the best in Aus­tralia, Sun­shine Coast clubs will be out in force.

Races will run from 8am-3pm to­day.
