Building approvals on the slide
BUILDING approvals continue to drop on the Sunshine Coast with 21.6 per cent fewer handed down this month compared to last month.
Over the past 12 months building approvals in the region had fallen by 15.2 per cent, down to 4410 in the past 12 months compared to 5198 the year before.
Regional Queensland approvals had dropped 14.7 per cent this year and were down by 22.6 per cent in the last month.
Master Builders Deputy CEO Paul Bidwell said the figures “speak volumes” and added weight to the calls to bring back the $5000 Boost to the First Home Owners’ Grant to regional Queensland.
“The boost was a vital tool for first home buyers to get a foot in the door of the housing market. Without it, home ownership has been put even further out of reach,” Mr Bidwell said.
