+ Make sure all in­gre­di­ents are at room tem­per­a­ture be­fore start­ing. + Mea­sure dry in­gre­di­ents in

mea­sur­ing jugs. + To pre­heat to cor­rect tem­per­a­ture, turn oven on 20 min­utes be­fore bak­ing cakes. + When mak­ing two cakes (ei­ther packet or home­made), make them in one large bowl. + Grease cake pans with melted but­ter or spray oil be­fore lin­ing with bak­ing pa­per. + Bake cakes on the same shelf in the oven to en­sure even cook­ing. + When bak­ing more than one cake, swap po­si­tions af­ter two-thirds of cook­ing time.
