Kick off hol­i­days with movie fun

THE long sum­mer hol­i­days have started and Mareeba’s Ris­ing Sun Cin­ema has a feast of great en­ter­tain­ment over the next six weeks. The fun kicks off with a new fam­ily re­lease this week­end. Trolls, from the same peo­ple who gave you the Shrek uni­verse, hits the Mareeba big screen at the same time as the rest of the coun­try. With a G rat­ing, it is fab­u­lous en­ter­tain­ment for the whole fam­ily. The sci fi alien fan­tasy Ar­rival con­tin­ues for a sec­ond great week A very spe­cial event is on this week­end with sneak pre­views of the up­com­ing colour­ful Dis­ney an­i­ma­tion Moana, which is due for a na­tion­wide Box­ing Day re­lease, so why not see it first be­fore ev­ery­one else. Moana pre­views at nor­mal prices are on Satur­day and Sun­day — this movie is pro­jected to be the big­gest fam­ily block­buster of these hol­i­days. Meet the overly op­ti­mistic Trolls, with a con­stant song on their lips ... and the com­i­cally pes­simistic Ber­gens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stom­ach. After the grumpy Ber­gens kid­nap some Trolls, hop­ing to find a taste of hap­pi­ness, the peren­ni­ally happy Troll Poppy (Anna Ken­drick) and reclu­sive, surly Branch (Justin Tim­ber­lake) set out to res­cue their friends.


Moana Wa­ia­liki is a sea voy­ag­ing en­thu­si­ast, and the only daugh­ter of a chief in a long line of nav­i­ga­tors. When her fam­ily needs her help, she sets off on an epic and colour­ful jour­ney.


When space­craft touch down across the globe, an elite team — led by ex­pert lin­guist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) — are brought to­gether to in­ves­ti­gate. As mankind teeters on the verge of war, they race to find an­swers.
