GET your engines and hearts racing at the Makotrac International Racetrack in Mareeba these holidays.
A passion for motorsports drives the friendly team at the Makotrac to create the ultimate driving experience in a safe and supportive environment.
Makotrac hires karts out from 5.5 horsepower to 50 horsepower, four strokes, rotary and two strokes, within a licence grading system.
You can also hire out the 1.3km racetrack for people with their own karts and motorcycles, conditions apply.
Owner/managing director Pim Kipper said the team had a passion for helping each driver develop their skills while having a great time.
“We care about the quality of driving our customers get, so we keep each heat small, usually a maximum of eight karts at a time on our 411m hire track,” she said.
“We are keen for each driver to become the best driver that they can be. If drivers are interested to become better, we are willing to help and give driving tips free of charge for the ages of seven and upwards.”
The family-run business is built on a strong love for motorsports. The Makotrac has been operating since 1998, when Horst Kipper built the track with a vision of having a great facility for motorsports in the Far North.
He has passed this passion onto his family who run the Makotrac and relish having the chance to kindle a love of racing in others.
“We are different from other hire karts because we are a family with a racing background and we are all passionate about motor sports, even our fully qualified mechanic is 2007 exmoto GP rider Nayuta Mizuno from Japan,” Ms Kipper said.
“We offer intensive karting lessons, which are a great way to get into the sport.
“We also sell gift vouchers, kart parts, kart tyres, oils and kart accessories to the public.”
The Makotrac caters for drivers aged four and up and even have drivers older than 70.
Age groups between 4 to 6 years of age must make a booking for special training.
