Rac­ing in for fun days at Mako­trac

GET your en­gines and hearts rac­ing at the Mako­trac In­ter­na­tional Race­track in Ma­reeba th­ese hol­i­days.

A pas­sion for mo­tor­sports drives the friendly team at the Mako­trac to cre­ate the ul­ti­mate driv­ing ex­pe­ri­ence in a safe and sup­port­ive en­vi­ron­ment.

Mako­trac hires karts out from 5.5 horse­power to 50 horse­power, four strokes, ro­tary and two strokes, within a li­cence grad­ing sys­tem.

You can also hire out the 1.3km race­track for peo­ple with their own karts and mo­tor­cy­cles, con­di­tions ap­ply.

Owner/manag­ing di­rec­tor Pim Kip­per said the team had a pas­sion for help­ing each driver de­velop their skills while hav­ing a great time.

“We care about the qual­ity of driv­ing our cus­tomers get, so we keep each heat small, usu­ally a max­i­mum of eight karts at a time on our 411m hire track,” she said.

“We are keen for each driver to be­come the best driver that they can be. If driv­ers are in­ter­ested to be­come bet­ter, we are will­ing to help and give driv­ing tips free of charge for the ages of seven and up­wards.”

The fam­ily-run busi­ness is built on a strong love for mo­tor­sports. The Mako­trac has been op­er­at­ing since 1998, when Horst Kip­per built the track with a vi­sion of hav­ing a great fa­cil­ity for mo­tor­sports in the Far North.

He has passed this pas­sion onto his fam­ily who run the Mako­trac and rel­ish hav­ing the chance to kin­dle a love of rac­ing in oth­ers.

“We are dif­fer­ent from other hire karts be­cause we are a fam­ily with a rac­ing back­ground and we are all pas­sion­ate about mo­tor sports, even our fully qual­i­fied me­chanic is 2007 ex­moto GP rider Nayuta Mizuno from Ja­pan,” Ms Kip­per said.

“We of­fer in­ten­sive kart­ing lessons, which are a great way to get into the sport.

“We also sell gift vouch­ers, kart parts, kart tyres, oils and kart ac­ces­sories to the public.”

The Mako­trac caters for driv­ers aged four and up and even have driv­ers older than 70.

Age groups be­tween 4 to 6 years of age must make a book­ing for spe­cial train­ing.

Mako­trac In­ter­na­tional Race­track will be in­creas­ing their prices from March 1. Get in quick to en­joy the cheap rates, which have been the same since 2009.
