THOUSANDS of people from across the Tablelands capped off their Christmas celebrations in style at the Mareeba Boxing Day Races.

Last month’s country racing meet was the Mareeba Turf Club’s most successful race day to date, with 2200 people in attendance.

“We had 450 more people than last year,” Club secretary John Thurlow said.

“That’s our record and it seems to get bigger and bigger every year.

“It’s a good day for the community and for us.

“It’s becoming such a tradition and the fashions are a real drawcard too.

“The number of entries was fantastic.”

Thurlow said the Mareeba Turf Club would host four race meetings this year.

“Our crowds keep getting bigger and better every race meeting,” he said.
