THE Mareeba Gladiators cocaptains have their eyes firmly set on victory when they lead the A-Grade team to battle this CDRL season.

Gladiators stalwart Ian King and newcomer Maddie Oosen will captain the side under the watchful eye of new coach, Tye Ingebrigtsen.

This season will be Oosen’s first time as a captain of an AGrade team.

The 23-year-old hopes to inspire the players and to increase their communication and sense of teamwork.

“I’ll play the best footy I can and get the boys going in the games,” Oosen said.

“I’m not a very big speaker off the field, but on the field I talk a fair bit.”

Oosen’s big goal is to attain a premiership, which has so far proven elusive for the hooker.

He has been playing AGrade league since he was 17 and previously played for Southern Suburbs, but said the connection would not phase him when the teams meet.

“It’ll be pretty crazy. My brother plays for Ivanhoes, so that’ll be pretty full-on as well,” Oosen said.

While still based in Cairns, Oosen hopes to soon move to the Tablelands, where his partner is from.
