Over-50s still live life to the full
OVER-50S residents at Savannah Lifestyle Resort in Mareeba will be getting more facilities in the near future with construction to begin soon for a new clubhouse.
The clubhouse will include a commercial kitchen, bar, dance floor, games room and facility rooms. It will also have a deck that overlooks the pool area.
The resort currently has a gym, communal vegetable garden, heated spa, two pools, and cinema.
Savannah Lifestyle Resort sales and marketing manager Adriena Zanella-Catling said residents enjoy being a part of community events and regularly visit various locations around the Tablelands.
“Next week we are taking a couple of buses to the council’s Seniors Week morning tea at the International Club,” she said.
She also said that each month residents travel down to Cairns for a shopping trip.
“They go on lunches and morning teas all the time and have games days but also have the freedom to come and go as they please,” she said.
This week residents also travelled to Kuranda for a lunch out. Mrs Zanella-Catling said the resort provided independent living with security gates and 24 hour surveillance to ensure the safety of residents.
During Seniors Week the Mareeba Library will be hosting a presentation about fall prevention with staff from the Mareeba Hospital on Thursday 24 August at 10.30am.
The talk is part of the ‘Stay on your Feet Program’ which provides information for seniors about preventing falls and staying healthy and independent.
