Over-50s still live life to the full

OVER-50S res­i­dents at Sa­van­nah Life­style Resort in Ma­reeba will be get­ting more fa­cil­i­ties in the near fu­ture with con­struc­tion to be­gin soon for a new club­house.

The club­house will in­clude a com­mer­cial kitchen, bar, dance floor, games room and fa­cil­ity rooms. It will also have a deck that over­looks the pool area.

The resort cur­rently has a gym, com­mu­nal veg­etable gar­den, heated spa, two pools, and cin­ema.

Sa­van­nah Life­style Resort sales and mar­ket­ing man­ager Adriena Zanella-Catling said res­i­dents en­joy be­ing a part of com­mu­nity events and reg­u­larly visit var­i­ous lo­ca­tions around the Tablelands.

“Next week we are tak­ing a cou­ple of buses to the coun­cil’s Se­niors Week morn­ing tea at the In­ter­na­tional Club,” she said.

She also said that each month res­i­dents travel down to Cairns for a shop­ping trip.

“They go on lunches and morn­ing teas all the time and have games days but also have the free­dom to come and go as they please,” she said.

This week res­i­dents also trav­elled to Ku­randa for a lunch out. Mrs Zanella-Catling said the resort pro­vided in­de­pen­dent liv­ing with se­cu­rity gates and 24 hour surveil­lance to en­sure the safety of res­i­dents.

Dur­ing Se­niors Week the Ma­reeba Li­brary will be host­ing a pre­sen­ta­tion about fall preven­tion with staff from the Ma­reeba Hos­pi­tal on Thurs­day 24 Au­gust at 10.30am.

The talk is part of the ‘Stay on your Feet Pro­gram’ which pro­vides in­for­ma­tion for se­niors about pre­vent­ing falls and stay­ing healthy and in­de­pen­dent.
