Call to help keep girl guides go­ing

MA­REEBA Girl Guides are call­ing on the com­mu­nity to join and help keep the club run­ning. Hav­ing been open for 75 years in Ma­reeba, pres­i­dent Ray­mond Met­zger is ask­ing par­ents to get their daugh­ters in­volved. Mr Met­zger said be­ing a part of Girl Guides gives girls con­fi­dence, self-re­spect and vi­tal skills.

“It gets them in­volved in ac­tiv­i­ties and things that they may not nor­mally be ex­posed to,” he said.

“Our club needs a lot of work. What we re­ally need is for more girls to join and our Guide hut also needs a lot of work.” The club is cur­rently try­ing to raise funds to make much needed up­grades to their hut. Any­one in­ter­ested in join­ing or help­ing out can con­tact them through their Face­book Page, Ma­reeba Girl Guides.

Ma­reeba Lions Club re­cently do­nated money to the club help­ing them get out of debt.
