Call to help keep girl guides going
MAREEBA Girl Guides are calling on the community to join and help keep the club running. Having been open for 75 years in Mareeba, president Raymond Metzger is asking parents to get their daughters involved. Mr Metzger said being a part of Girl Guides gives girls confidence, self-respect and vital skills.
“It gets them involved in activities and things that they may not normally be exposed to,” he said.
“Our club needs a lot of work. What we really need is for more girls to join and our Guide hut also needs a lot of work.” The club is currently trying to raise funds to make much needed upgrades to their hut. Anyone interested in joining or helping out can contact them through their Facebook Page, Mareeba Girl Guides.
Mareeba Lions Club recently donated money to the club helping them get out of debt.
Mareeba Lions Club member Alan Carroll and president Denis McKinley were happy to help Georgina Metzger, Toni-Maree Metzger, 10, Ashleigh Burton, 11, and Chelsea Metzger, 14 from Mareeba Girls Guides.
