A DONATION from Mareeba Lions Club will help Mareeba horse rider Jamie HewittToms travel to Toowoomba to compete in the Interschool National Competition.

The 14-year-old rider recently represented Mareeba’s St Stephen’s Catholic College at the State Interschool Showjumping Championships where she was reserve champion in the 110cm class and fourth in the 100cm class.

She has now been invited to compete in the national titles in September this year.

Mother Christine Hewitt and her daughter are both fundraising to get her to the national titles to compete.

Mrs Hewitt said the donation from the Lions club would be a great help but they have still need to raise more money.

So far they have held raffles and sausage sizzles to boost the travel fund.

Jamie said her first state jumping event was in 2012 when she was aged just 8.

She said she was excited to have the chance to compete in the nationals now.

With a strict training schedule, Jamie said they still needed about $2500 to cover the cost of driving, competing and accommodation while in Toowoomba.
