Painting to relax, create and have fun
ARTIST of all skills met to paint sunflowers at a workshop provided by a Dimbulah painter in Mareeba.
Artist Gioia Dalla Lana held a workshop at the Mareeba Art Society building, next to the Heritage Centre, on Saturday August 19 from 10.30am.
All levels of artists attended the workshop and had the chance to work with acrylic paints using their fingers as painting tools and talk about technique with other painters.
Mrs Dalla Lana said she held a workshop in Mareeba last year but decided to hold another one this year for those who missed out in 2016.
“The workshop was aimed at beginners so no one was scared to have a go,” she said.
“You didn’t need a paint brush for this workshop and everyone went home with their own painting.”
Artist Fran Welsh from White Rock, Cairns travelled to Mareeba to be a part of the day and further her painting skills. Mrs Welsh said she normally paints with water colours.
Her usual inspiration is flowers and landscapes but the workshop gave her a chance to work with a different medium.
“Painting is relaxing and I enjoy doing creative things,” she said.
“Today we are painting sunflowers and we are layering with greens which will become our leaves.
“We are learning about blending paints and colours so it doesn’t look like you have just slapped the paint on.”
Mrs Welsh said there weren’t a lot of opportunities to attend art workshops within the region but it was wonderful that there were options on offer in Mareeba.
