Mareeba SS a sea of colour in Book Week
MAREEBA State School was transformed into every child's dream, with hundreds of story characters coming to life to celebrate Book Week.
Students and staff dressed up as their favourite characters and showed off their colourful costumes at a whole school parade.
Deputy principal Hannah Simspon said after seeing a drop in children turning to books, focusing on learning how to read and wanting to reads books was so important.
“Reading gives kids the chance to use their imagination,” she said.
“We want to get kids excited about reading and we’re trying to make it fun.”
Mrs Simpson said to continue promoting books the school ran a Big Day Out of Reading on Tuesday, with students from prep to Year 3 visiting several local businesses where they read a different book. Students enjoyed the event with the theme of the day was ‘Under the Sea’.
