THE Mareeba community has pulled together to help send Mareeba futsal players to the Gold Coast.

Sixteen players from Mareeba State School and students from Mareeba State High School will travel to the glitter strip on October 16 to compete in the FAF National Futsal Championships.

Mareeba State School teacher aide Ronnie Leporati said the community had really gotten behind the boys and girls who will be going away.

“It will be a good experience for them and hopefully they will want to play futsal for an outside team,” he said.

“If your school wins the tournament, on the Gold Coast, they will be invited to participate in a tournament overseas.”

Mr Leporati said he had been organising games each day at lunch for the past five years so the kids had a chance to practise.

He said he was grateful to Apels Solicitors and Mareeba Lions Club for donating money for students to travel and the school has also raised a fair bit of their own money by doing car washes in Mareeba.
