Burnouts of fun this weekend at outlaw funny cars, Springmount

Tablelands Advertiser - - SPORT -

TABLELANDS rev heads can gear up for round 4 of Springmount Raceway’s 2017 Track Championship series while enjoying the rumble of 4000 horsepower engines, burnouts and drag racing at Springmount Raceway this Saturday September 23.

The headline event this year will be the Areoflow Outlaw Funny Cars which will salute the crowd at 2pm and race at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.

Springmount Raceway managing director Evan Yelavich said it will be a great day out for families with different events throughout the day.

“The funny cars are a slightly distorted version of a car. They are extremely fast and extremely loud. The cars are spectacular with flames shooting out from the exhaust,” he said.

“We will start on Friday night with a test and tune for competitors at 6pm to 9pm.

“There will be a jumping castle for kids with a free entry and a bar and food available.”

Testing will commence at 9am on Saturday with qualifying starting off at 11am and racing will begin at 1pm.

A sun break will be scheduled at 5.30pm giving a chance for spectators to watch the burn out demonstrations.

“We will have the sun break because of the westernly sun which gets in competitor’s eyes and can be dangerous,” Mr Yelavich said.

North Queensland Cowboys fan’s will have no need to rush off on Saturday for their sudden death final against the Sydney Roosters at 7.30pm because Springmount raceway have hired an LED screen.

“By the time people get home from the event, they might miss more than half the game, depending on where they live,” Mr Yelavich said.

Camping will be available to the public and entrants on Friday and Saturday nights.
