Black belt claimed with a kick by Martens

EIGHT black belt in­struc­tors and 34 Rhee Tae Kwon Do stu­dents at­tended Spring Ac­tion day in Ma­reeba on Satur­day, Septem­ber 9, at the Ma­reeba Train­ing Cen­tre.

High school stu­dent El­iz­a­beth (Elly) Martens, 14, was pro­moted to ju­nior black belt on the day by grad­ing ex­am­iner, Re­gional Mas­ter In­struc­tor Gen­naro Arena.

“We are very proud of Elly Martens as our new­est ju­nior black belt at Ma­reeba train­ing cen­tre,” Sec­ond grade Ma­reeba branch in­struc­tor Ray­win Mus­marra said.

“Elly works hard and trains to a high stan­dard.

“She is a great role model and we con­grat­u­late her on her suc­cess reach­ing ju­nior black belt in Rhee Tae Kwon Do.”

She was pre­vi­ously ranked as a first grade, brown belt black tip stu­dent.

She ac­com­plished sev­eral sin­gle board breaks re­quired for ju­nior black level, as well as rounds of free spar­ring against nu­mer­ous op­po­nents.

“Elly has been train­ing at RTKD Ma­reeba Cen­tre for the past three-and-a-half years,” said Ma­reeba branch in­struc­tor Frank Mus­marra.

“Elly is a dili­gent stu­dent who strives to learn, she al­ways lis­tens to her in­struc­tors.”.
