Black belt claimed with a kick by Martens
EIGHT black belt instructors and 34 Rhee Tae Kwon Do students attended Spring Action day in Mareeba on Saturday, September 9, at the Mareeba Training Centre.
High school student Elizabeth (Elly) Martens, 14, was promoted to junior black belt on the day by grading examiner, Regional Master Instructor Gennaro Arena.
“We are very proud of Elly Martens as our newest junior black belt at Mareeba training centre,” Second grade Mareeba branch instructor Raywin Musmarra said.
“Elly works hard and trains to a high standard.
“She is a great role model and we congratulate her on her success reaching junior black belt in Rhee Tae Kwon Do.”
She was previously ranked as a first grade, brown belt black tip student.
She accomplished several single board breaks required for junior black level, as well as rounds of free sparring against numerous opponents.
“Elly has been training at RTKD Mareeba Centre for the past three-and-a-half years,” said Mareeba branch instructor Frank Musmarra.
“Elly is a diligent student who strives to learn, she always listens to her instructors.”.
