Tablelands Advertiser - - NEWS -

Many thanks to Bob Katter, (Tablelands Advertiser, Septmeber 15) for that bright light on the future of our nation’s families.

Bob referred to “a beautiful spectre of happiness, wonder and excitement at the end of a poem.”

How much more wonderful in everyday life, as we make the correct choices.

As a pilot, I am constantly aware of one of our adages, “learn from the mistakes of others; you won’t live long enough to make them all yourself.”

We have an enormous advantage here in Australia, being able to observe the effects already taking place in those nations who have embarked on a voyage we are invited to take by changing the present laws on marriage.

For documentation, see Stealing from a Child - The Injustice of Marriage Equality by Dr David van Gend. I will certainly be voting no to the proposal, as will the many I have spoken to about it. LANCE KEOUGH, Atherton

Kennedy’s Bob Katter, in stark contrast to Leichhardt’s Warren Entsch, offers salient and well-considered thoughts on homosexual unions (Tablelands Advertiser, September 15).

Leftists have long understood the importance of capturing and controlling the language. In 1949 George Orwell presciently wrote of “Newspeak” in his book Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Consider how far toward an Orwellian socialist dystopia we have already blindly shuffled and how close we are to being prosecuted for “thoughtcrimes” in the SSM debate.

Leftists are using homosexual couples as a tool to further undermine the timetested pillars of the great society our forebears built.

The ancient societal concept of marriage, which predates religion or government, was engineered to ensure men provided for women while they produced and nurtured the next generation.

The “forever” marriage meant the woman wasn’t left without support once her child-bearing and child-rearing was done.

There was no need for marriage between two men or two women because those unions cannot procreate. Same sex couples can only “procure” children.

While some heterosexual couples make a mockery of marriage there are plenty who take their lifetime commitments very seriously indeed.

These married-for-life people and their ancient tradition must be respected.

SSM isn’t about “equality”, it’s just part of the left’s never-ending campaign to tear down capitalist democracies and replace them with global socialism.

The best way to avoid the totalitarian nightmare Orwell described is to preserve the values and traditions that enabled our advanced technological society to develop in the first place.

Be wary of “Newspeak” shaping your thoughts. PETER CAMPION, Tolga

My fellow citizens of Mareeba and surrounds, despite the efforts of Save the Mareeba Hospital Group (STMHG) it would now appear that they, the bureaucrats and public servants, no longer wish to meet with us, nor MP Bob Katter when they themselves arrange for a video hook up, or indeed Mareeba’s ex mayor Mick Borzi.

We simply want clarity on many issues and we definitely want the bulk billing GP clinic at the Mareeba Hospital to remain, after all if you require medical attention after hours, do you not present at a hospital. The core business of a hospital and that of our Mareeba District Rural Hospital is to provide not only the GP clinic, but the full range of allied services.

We are being ignored, hoping we will just go away and slowly but surely we will lose our Mareeba Hospital.

Mareeba has an 8 per cent growth rate, geographically well situated at the entrance to Cape York and a major service centre for those communities in Cape York, so why the continued push from the Queensland Labor State Government and the Liberal National Federal Government and Cairns Hinterland Health Services senior management to reduce and close services.

A good hospital is fundamental to a community.

We are being ignored; the Queensland Labor Government and the State Labor Health Minister Cameron Dick have not even acknowledged the 5200 signatures on the petition calling to retain services at the hospital.

We have no option left now except to call a street march, followed by a public rally to gain the attention of these so called decision makers so they know what we, the public expects and demands of our hospital.

There will be extensive advertising of the day and time of such rally.

Please stand with me to save our hospital. GORDON RASMUSSEN, KAP Candidate for Cook
