Chillagoe duo cleans up at awards
MOTHER and daughter team from Chillagoe have taken home two awards at the 2017 Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards.
Becci Nethery and her mother Kerry Nethery both won awards at last weekend.
Becci won the National Country Album of the Year for her 2016 album Beautiful Life which is the second year in a row that she has won the award for that record.
The album was recorded in Tamworth and produced by Tamworth musician Greg Williams.
Becci’s mother Kerry Nethery was presented with the National Artist/Manager of the Year which was accepted by Becci on her behalf on the night.
Mrs Nethery said she is extremely proud of the achievements Becci has made and they have exciting plans for the future.
“I have been backing her musically since she was about 6-years-old,” she said.
“Now she has her own students in Sydney who she teachers.”
Mrs Nethery said there were a lot of talented people in the country music industry and Becci was lucky enough to win album of the year against eight other amazing albums.
“She has a lot of fans in Tasmania but votes came from across the nation,” she said.
Next Becci will be heading back home for the Christmas holidays and she hopes to perform locally.
However, her next big goal will be entering the prestigious Toyota Star Maker competition in Tamworth early next year.
“That is going to be part of her major commitment next year and get out on the road and do some touring,” Mrs Nethery said.
