A $1 MILLION study will be conducted into the North Johnstone River diversion.
The LNP Government will invest the money into a critical study into diverting floodwater from the North Johnstone River to Tinaroo Dam.
LNP Candidate for Hill Mario Quagliata (pictured) said the study cannot be done if LNP is not voted into government.
“This can’t go on – only an LNP Government will invest $1 million to investigate the option of water diversion to boost agriculture production, jobs and export opportunities,” he said. LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said only the LNP’s Mario Quagliata will deliver this project for the Hill community.
He said the study would form part of the LNP’s Royalties for the Region Program.
“Our North Johnstone River and Tinaroo Dam study is part of our plan to Build a Better Queensland by Building a Better Hill,” he said.
Mareeba Dimbulah Irrigation Council chairman Joe Moro said it was great that LNP had listened to irrigators concerns.
He said this would be just a study and does not mean the diversion will be built.
“We are strongly supportive of the diversion and time will tell what happens,” he said.
Mareeba Dimbulah Irrigation Council have a three part proposal to help water users in the region however that is not possible without studies. Mr Moro said he is for the study and finding out the impact of others further down stream if the project were to go ahead. Mario Quagliata and Senator Barry O’Sullivan will be attending a shed meeting at Isabella’s Shed on 143 Beantree Road, Tolga, today to answer any questions on this project or any questions you may have in general.
