Cricket games in balance
THREE Mareeba cricket sides will hope to continue their good form for the final innings of their two-day games this weekend.
The under 14s, under 16s and 2nd division sides played competitively in the hopes of securing victory.
Playing Innisfail, the under 14s opened the batting making a solid 131 in the first innings.
Batsman Angus Campman was 52 not out and Jole Muccignat was 20 not out at the end of the first innings. Innisfail chased down Mareeba’s total and only edged out in front by 13 runs at stumps on the first day.
Bowlers Ryan Johnson, Jole Muccignat and Jamie Curcio ensured Innisfail’s runs did not come easy taking one wicket a piece.
The under 16s played a strong Mulgrave side and kept their total to 93 with some great bowling from Cory Wilce who took three wickets and Brenden Johns and Braydon Olufson taking one apiece. With some great batting by the top order the under 16s were five for 110.
The 2nd division side also played Innisfail with the Mareeba side playing some great attacking cricket. With some fine bowling, Innisfail’s top order collapsed for 10 runs. Through some quick runs by the middle order, they managed to 131 after 55 overs.
Mareeba’s Darcy Houlihan took three wickets, left arm quick Toby Kerswell took two and Liam Bombardieri took one.
The 3rd division and under 12s were unsuccessful to record wins but were out muscled by some fine form.
A great batting performance by Mulgrave had the 3rd division on the back foot. Mareeba
needed 221 for the win but a middle order collapse saw them bowled for 97.
The under 12s side took on Atherton 4 and Mareeba opened the game making 143 with some good batting by Jake Bombardieri making 41 and Jace Cureton 40.
Atherton came into bat and overtook the score with a couple overs to spare. The 45 extra’s really hurt Mareeba and will need to be tightened for their game tomorrow at Firth Park against Atherton 1.
Mareeba under 14s will continue their two-day game against Innisfail at Innisfail Tafe tomorrow at 1pm and the 3rd division side will have a bye this week but continue playing on Sunday December 10 against the Tully Sugar Tigers at Borzi Park.
The 2nd’s final innings tomorrow at 1pm at Borzi Park.
