Lights on for festive season
THE Christmas cheer can be seen from miles away as people start putting up their lights and preparing for this year’s Mareeba Shire Council Christmas lights competition.
Don’t miss your chance to show off your Christmas cheer with competition entries closing next Wednesday.
Last year’s Best Business winners are gearing up for another win with an even better display than last year.
Allen’s 4X4 Tint and Signs owner Garry and Loren Allen, winners for 2016, have decorated their building on 10 Basalt St, Mareeba and they are encouraging locals to head down to their shop and check out the lights between the times of 5pm and 1am.
Their display continues inside the shop giving customers a happy experience while shopping.
Master behind the lights Mrs Allen said she puts the lights up each year because she loves the festive season and seeing other people’s reactions is worth the effort.
She said the display took her and the staff three days to put up but is sure worth it in the end.
“We get a lot of customers who give us feedback,” she said.
“I encourage more shop owners to put up lights. Some of the shops could zing their places up for Christmas.” Entries close on Wednesday December 13. Entry forms can be found on the Mareeba Shire Council website https://msc.qld.gov.au/christmaslights-competition/.
