Dis­abil­ity Week recog­nised at li­brary

MA­REEBA Shire Coun­cil li­brary cel­e­brated the pos­i­tive im­pact peo­ple with a dis­abil­ity have in the com­mu­nity with a morn­ing tea to mark In­ter­na­tional Dis­abil­ity Day.

In­ter­na­tional Dis­abil­ity Day was held De­cem­ber 3 but the li­brary cel­e­brated it last Thurs­day.

Flex­iChoice service users were in­vited for a morn­ing tea and craft ac­tiv­ity.

Flex­iChoice is a dis­abil­ity sup­port service which has served the North Tablelands com­mu­nity for 14 years.

Li­brary branch su­per­vi­sor Wendy Rutherford said the li­brary was in­clu­sive of the en­tire com­mu­nity and the tea was per­fect to show­case that.

“The li­brary is for ev­ery­one and we want peo­ple with a dis­abil­ity to feel wel­come at the li­brary,” she said.

Flex­iChoice service co­or­di­na­tor Vir­ginia Carr said we were liv­ing in a time of change as walls were be­ing bro­ken down in what de­fines a per­son.
