Raid finds marijuana and rare WW1 gun

A RAID on a prop­erty in Ma­reeba has re­sulted in a 61-yearold be­ing charged with drugs and weapons of­fences.

De­tec­tives from the Ma­jor and Or­gan­ised Crime Squad (Ru­ral) laid the charges af­ter ex­e­cut­ing a search war­rant on Ti­na­roo Creek Road, Ma­reeba on Mon­day morn­ing.

Of­fi­cers ex­e­cuted the search war­rant at the ad­dress about 10am and it will be al­leged they found 107 cannabis seedlings as well as items used to pro­duce the plants.

It will fur­ther be al­leged that the 61-year-old man was also in pos­ses­sion of sev­eral firearms.

This in­cluded an un­reg­is­tered 1917 Luger pis­tol and am­mu­ni­tion.

The man is ex­pected to ap­pear in the Ma­reeba Mag­is­trates Court on De­cem­ber 18.

He will be charged with one count each of pos­sess dan­ger­ous drugs, pro­duce dan­ger­ous drugs, pos­sess un­reg­is­tered firearms, pos­sess prop­erty sus­pected of be­ing used in the com­mis­sion of an of­fence, fail­ure to store am­mu­ni­tion in a se­cured area, fail­ure to store weapons in se­cure stor­age and fail to keep firearms un­loaded when not be­ing used.
