Gymnasts’ final meet impresses
MAREEBA Gymnastics club celebrated their end of year event with about 70 students showcasing their flexibility and flips last weekend.
Students had three displays including backbends, trampoline flips and high acrobatic flips performed with music for 450 spectators.
One display was an afro circus, where boys and girls were dressed as clowns with colourful costumes.
The boys showed off their strength, doing push ups in time to the music while the girls showed their flexibility with backbends and flips.
Afro display performer Scarlett Battistin, 13 said she had been with the club since she was five but enjoyed the end of year event.
“It was a fun experience to what we normally do and a good way to end off the year,” she said.
“We practised for about 3 to 4 weeks leading up to this event and I cannot wait for next year.”
Mareeba Gymnastics Club coaching director Kelly Tulloch said the students are all very enthusiastic and it was a great way to celebrate their achievements.
“I love that the kids all love the sport so much. While I was giving my speech they were on the grass practicing their different skills which was so good to see,” she said.
“All the kids that attended our final event received a yearly badge to recognise the hard work of the gymnasts.”
