Tablelands Advertiser - - SPORT - Bec Singh

THE Mareeba under 12s cricket side can look forward to their Christmas break after ending the year on a winning note.

A fired up Mareeba side was going to have some tough competition from a strong Atherton 1 team last Saturday.

Spectators enjoyed a great morning of cricket, as the under 12s made a solid 152 run total.

Jake Bombardieri continued his great form with the bat and was 40 not out while Bryce Finchim made 22 and backed up his form with some great bowling.

A great bowling attack had Atherton fall 57 runs short. Finchim took two wickets and Damon Leeds one.

The heat played its part in the under 14 match as an in form Innisfail proved too strong.

Mareeba’s 2nd division side continued their two-game match against Innisfail. Innisfail eventually declared at 6116.

Toby Kerswell had another great game, taking 2-33. One of Mareeba’s opening batsmen fell for a duck and the side was unable to recover making only 58.

The under 12s and under 14s will play their next games in January 2018. The 2nd division side head to Port Douglas to play a two-day match against Douglas Muddies on Sunday 1pm at the Port Douglas Crocs AFL club on Wharf Street, Port Douglas.
