Mate vs mate on drag strip

Tablelands Advertiser - - SPORT - Bronwyn Wheatcroft

BLOW out the cobwebs and head to Springmount Raceway at Arriga tomorrow for the first Test and Tune event for 2018.

Drivers will get the chance to prepare for the season ahead and test their cars in preparation for the Northern Nats on the first weekend of May.

Springmount Raceway managing director Evan Yelavich said they will be doing things a bit differently this year.

“This year we are running events a little later and starting races at 2pm until about 9pm,” he said.

“We have all of our new lighting in place now.”

He said tomorrow’s Race Ya Mate event at the track 20 minutes south of Mareeba will set the scene for a good year.

“We call these events Race Ya Mate because it is a precursor where people can come out and blow out their cobwebs and see how their vehicles are running before competitions start,” he said.

“Come out line up against your mate or anyone else we line you up with.

“There is no competition this round.”

He said it is also a chance for drivers to go out and do tests but not actually race anyone. All nominations are done online at the Springmount Raceway website at www.springmountrace
