FLAGGY Creek Bridge on Mona Mona Road was distroyed in recent rain after it was replaced late last year.

A Mareeba Shire Council spokesman said the bridge near Kuranda was recently damaged by flood water and debris, effectively closing Mona Mona Road at the Flaggy Creek Bridge last month.

“Accessibility to the bridge was restricted by flood waters and once possible, council began removing debris and what was left of the bridge this week,” he said.

“Council hopes to provide temporary access, however it will depend on the findings following an engineering assessment.

“The bridge will be replaced when approval is received from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.”

The original bridge was nearing the end of its life before it was restored in September last year.
