Rally to vegetation meeting
FAR North Queensland farmers and industry leaders will step out to voice their concerns about the Palaszczuk Government’s proposed vegetation management laws by holding a rally in Cairns today.
Spearheaded by a peak organisation representing Queensland’s rural producers, Agforce, local farmers will rally near Member for Barron River Craig Crawford’s office at Stanton Place on the Captain Cook Highway, Smithfield from 10am.
The rally will coincide with the final public hearing into the proposed laws, which will be held at the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns from noon.
AgForce North Queensland Regional President Russell Lethbridge said the State Government’s proposed vegetation management laws would “make it harder and more expensive for farmers to do their jobs and won’t deliver the best environmental outcomes either”.
“Farmers just want fair and workable laws to grow more food, create jobs and look after their environment without being strangled in red tape,” he said.
