Cat­tle sale bucks quiet trend

ELDERS sold 363 head of cat­tle at last week’s monthly Powranna sale.

The mar­ket was fully firm com­pared to pre­vi­ous sales and this sur­prised ob­servers in a pe­riod of de­clin­ing de­mand and prices for prime stock.

Gard­ners Bay topped the mar­ket with a pen of year­ling An­gus steers sell­ing for $1420, fol­lowed by Pinecrest and Duck Flats reach­ing $1260. Grove got to a top of $1200, Ragged Tier $1180, Shrub End $1160 and Oyster Cove $1150 and Wat­tle Grove $1150.

Store prices were com­pet­i­tive with the top pen of Charo­lais crosses from Safety Cove and Oyster Cove steers sell­ing for $1120 per head.

This top price was fol­lowed closely by Ragged Tier at $1090, Pinecrest at $1070, Dun­roamin $1030, Duck Flats and Bona Vista $1020 and Rose­lands, Nichols Rivulet and Lake River Farm all at $1000.

Heifer prices were strong with the top pen of Mur­ray Greys from Lake River Farm sell­ing for $1030 each fol­lowed by Safety Cove at $1000, Kel­lara Farm and Loira at $930, Parki at $920, Duck Flats $910, Bona Vista $830 and Whitery, Oyster Cove and Nichols Rivulet all reach­ing $800.
