Cattle sale bucks quiet trend
ELDERS sold 363 head of cattle at last week’s monthly Powranna sale.
The market was fully firm compared to previous sales and this surprised observers in a period of declining demand and prices for prime stock.
Gardners Bay topped the market with a pen of yearling Angus steers selling for $1420, followed by Pinecrest and Duck Flats reaching $1260. Grove got to a top of $1200, Ragged Tier $1180, Shrub End $1160 and Oyster Cove $1150 and Wattle Grove $1150.
Store prices were competitive with the top pen of Charolais crosses from Safety Cove and Oyster Cove steers selling for $1120 per head.
This top price was followed closely by Ragged Tier at $1090, Pinecrest at $1070, Dunroamin $1030, Duck Flats and Bona Vista $1020 and Roselands, Nichols Rivulet and Lake River Farm all at $1000.
Heifer prices were strong with the top pen of Murray Greys from Lake River Farm selling for $1030 each followed by Safety Cove at $1000, Kellara Farm and Loira at $930, Parki at $920, Duck Flats $910, Bona Vista $830 and Whitery, Oyster Cove and Nichols Rivulet all reaching $800.
