Call for classers to go to new lengths
WOOL classers are urged to be aware of the impacts of dealing with shorter wool because of a move towards six to eight-monthly shearing.
While an increase in the trading of sheep is another issue confronting wool classers, increased numbers of different mobs at shearing are making it more challenging to class for uniformity.
AWEX wool classer registrar Fiona Raleigh said shorter shearing intervals had become more common. “Wool classers need to be aware of the impacts of dealing with shorter wool, that’s one little change.”
She said because of high sheep and wool prices more growers were trading, creating mixed mobs at shearing time.
