Here­fords lead weaner line-up

EL­DERS sold 1256 wean­ers at its sec­ond sale of the au­tumn sea­son with a strong mar­ket for qual­ity Bri­tish breeds.

The Easter week sale fea­tured a top line-up of Here­ford and Here­ford-cross calves.

Steers met good com­pe­ti­tion from lo­cal fat­ten­ers and feed­lot buy­ers were again keen on An­gus calves.

Heifer sales were solid with ma­jor­ity go­ing to fat­ten­ers and some well-bred lines bought for re­stock­ers. One in­ter­state buyer was present but un­able to com­pete on the day.

Santa Gertrudis-Here­ford cross steers from Rock­ford reached a sale top of $1410 each. Eloura, Huonville and Ro­se­vears An­gus steers sold for $1350 while Sandford An­gus steers made $1290 per head.

An­gus calves from Oak­dale and Ston­ey­croft $1260 per head.

In the heifer sec­tion Rock­ford again reached the best price for the day, with its Here­ford heifer calves sell­ing for $1200 per head.

Oak­dale An­gus heifer calves made $970 and Ston­ey­croft An­gus heifers $940 each.
