Herefords lead weaner line-up
ELDERS sold 1256 weaners at its second sale of the autumn season with a strong market for quality British breeds.
The Easter week sale featured a top line-up of Hereford and Hereford-cross calves.
Steers met good competition from local fatteners and feedlot buyers were again keen on Angus calves.
Heifer sales were solid with majority going to fatteners and some well-bred lines bought for restockers. One interstate buyer was present but unable to compete on the day.
Santa Gertrudis-Hereford cross steers from Rockford reached a sale top of $1410 each. Eloura, Huonville and Rosevears Angus steers sold for $1350 while Sandford Angus steers made $1290 per head.
Angus calves from Oakdale and Stoneycroft $1260 per head.
In the heifer section Rockford again reached the best price for the day, with its Hereford heifer calves selling for $1200 per head.
Oakdale Angus heifer calves made $970 and Stoneycroft Angus heifers $940 each.
