1 Don’t lift the lid dur­ing cook­ing, be­cause the con­den­sa­tion will run down the sides of the cooker and can cre­ate damp spots on the top of your pud­ding or cake.

2 Be care­ful not to scrape the in­side of the slow-cooker bowl with sharp knives or ob­jects. Use plas­tic or sil­i­cone uten­sils to re­move food.

3 In­vest­ing in a large slow cooker is a good idea, so you can feed a crowd or make dou­ble batches of food to freeze for later.
