Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll have more in common than we thought
ALL THREE STIMULATE THE SAME REWARD CENTRES IN THE BRAIN
Turns out the human brain doesn’t really know the difference between sex, drugs and music, giving us the same high whether we’re in a romp, toe tapping or snorting something we shouldn’t. Scientists have found that all three stimulate the same chemical systems in the brain as eating tasty food or gambling — things that can lead to addictive behaviour. There’s hope that this understanding could help formulate better treatments for addiction in the near future.
