Turns out the hu­man brain doesn’t re­ally know the dif­fer­ence be­tween sex, drugs and mu­sic, giv­ing us the same high whether we’re in a romp, toe tap­ping or snort­ing some­thing we shouldn’t. Sci­en­tists have found that all three stim­u­late the same chem­i­cal sys­tems in the brain as eat­ing tasty food or gam­bling — things that can lead to ad­dic­tive be­hav­iour. There’s hope that this un­der­stand­ing could help for­mu­late bet­ter treat­ments for ad­dic­tion in the near fu­ture.
