LIKE A DETECTIVE’S PIN BOARD FOR MUSIC

There’s plenty of resources for finding more music that gels with your tastes, and with listening data becoming readily available thanks to streaming services, the recommendations seem to be getting scarily accurate. Music Map has a rather unique way of looking at this same idea, but it makes all the difference. Instead of presenting you with a long list of artist names, or letting you listen through playlists of hit-or-miss songs, Music Map spits out results in a visual word-cloud of sorts. Punching in the name of a particular artist will place them in the centre of the screen as dozens of similar artists swirl around and eventually settle. Each name’s proximity to its neighbour (including your central search-term) indicates the likelihood that someone would like both of those artists, and by clicking on an artist, they become the new centre of the map. This method can be great for diving down rabbit-holes of association in order to discover fresh (but not too fresh) music. Oh, and there’s also a Movie Map and Literature Map under the same network that do similar things for films and books, respectively.
