Laser MID786

EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE.

AVAILABLE FOR JUST $79, the Laser MID786 makes even the most affordable e-reader look expensive. The little tablet measures in at 7 inches, is 12mm thick and weighs 211 grams. It runs Android 6, with a quad-core Allwiner A33 1.34GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

While the 1,024 x 600 screen isn’t nearly as nice for reading books, it can play back video. The Laser tablet itself is somewhat plasticy, but feels robust enough to throw in a handbag.

It has a forwards-facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microSD card slot. The inbuilt audio is predicably tinny, but it does have a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Of course, compared to an e-reader, the big difference is battery life, and the MID786 will only last 7 hours or so between charges.

For those who read a lot of books, the Laser MID786 isn’t the best choice, but considering the very low price, it makes for a decent multi-use tablet.
